D Smith holds an Associate's degree from Wilbur Wright Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Columbia College Chicago. Born and raised in Chicago their work explores themes of place & time, interconnection, and memory. As a multimedia artist working with experimental processes and materials, they invite the viewer to question what defines photography and interact with it in exploratory ways. Through each project they develop, adapt, and discover new challenges and continue to explore their own and the collective psyche. Using the photographic medium as a starting point to analyze the depths of consciousness, they take a closer and deeper look at things around us and in us, as beings who occupy a small sliver of time and space and the legacy we leave behind.
